Part work shirt, part frock coat — the Type 457 resists easy categorization and is better for it. Cut across the grain with no side seams and a shoulder seam borrowed from 18th century dress coat construction, it's a shirt with genuine historical logic behind every decision. Deep scooped tails, naturally puckered cotton seams, and dyed cotton-covered metal buttons finish the picture.
About the fabric
Tender's Cotton Pyjama cloth is woven in the USA from American cotton — the same material destined for brushed flannel, taken straight off the loom before finishing. Cut oversized from heavily starched cloth, the garment shrinks and softens during washing and dyeing, pulling the panels together into something that feels entirely its own.
About the color
Logwood — also known as bloodwood — is a tree native to the West Indies and South America whose ground heartwood produces a deep crimson liquid capable of yielding colors ranging from black and purple to a delicate fawn. Prized enough that Elizabeth I once ordered privateers to seize Spanish logwood shipments, it's a dye with centuries of history behind it — and a color that shifts and evolves depending on how it's applied.
